SW Oregon 700 series makes up several different GMU’s with the highest bear densities. It is situated between Interstate 5 and the Southern Oregon Coast in the Siskiyou and Coast Range mountains. Because of the heavy bear population, they issue 4400 spring bear tags each year.
There are tons of bears, tons of country and this is a guaranteed draw for non-residents. Spring season runs from April – May and Fall bear hunts start August 1st. During the fall season you can purchase a license over the counter. If you are looking for a great Spring bear hunt, we can produce great opportunities. Although the most common color we see is black, it is not unusual for bears in this region to have some color phase characteristics, including brown, cinnamon and blonde. Most of the time our hunting methods will be dictated by food sources and weather conditions. Our preferred for hunting bears include calling, spot and stalk and glassing feeding areas. This gives us the best opportunity to look at the bear carefully and judge it before making a decision to harvest. Good optics and a lot of time spent using them is a very important element to a successful bear hunting trip. At certain times during the spring and fall hunts calling bears is extremely successful. Calling tends to work best on bears that we spot first but may not be able to get a good stalk on or just want to bring it close for a better shot or a bow setup. If you’ve ever wanted excitement, you’ll get it when a bear disappears into the brush and starts charging to a call.
Most areas that we hunt spring and fall bears is very steep and brushy. Terrain and habitat vary greatly in a short distance. Depending on the location hunted expect to be surrounded by deep timbered canyons, creek drainages, swamps, and old logging clear-cuts. Many of these places are walk in only areas behind locked gates. We park and then we access the hunting areas on foot. We use old roads and trails to access as much of the area as possible and then hunt accordingly.
Will be conducted from a tent camp. From there we will hunt several different areas and spike out as needed for success. We will come back to the base camp every as needed for food, shower, dry clothes and a good night sleep. For the hardcore hunters, weather permitting, we can stay overnight in hammocks or small spike camps deep into elk territory.
All hunts are available on a first come basis. To ensure quality and success, our clientele will be a maximum of 4 hunters (either one hunter per guide or two hunters per guide) per week, per camp, unless there are more in a private group.
All hunts require a 30% non-refundable deposit at the time of booking unless other arrangements are made. Hunts booked within 6 months of the hunt start require a 50% Deposit. The hunt balance is due 60 days prior to the hunt. We accept money orders, cashier checks, personal checks, Visa, MasterCard, Amex and Discover. We also accept ATM debit cards. Unfortunately, we will no longer accept personal checks for final payments unless made prior to the 60-day deadline.
